Look, I was an insanely high college student when I came up with that I never claimed it was a good theory.
The one I heard was that, while the Scots and Irish were out stealing cattle, the Welsh were stealing consonants from other people’s languages. I think the Hawaiians and the Finns got the leftover vowels.
